Description

Vitamin C is necessary in the formation of collagen (from the Greek word “kolla” meaning glue), which composes a third of all the protein in your body and provides strength and integrity to many tissues and organs, including skin, bones, cartilage, hair and nails, heart, blood vessels, kidneys, bladder, muscle, and digestive tract. You could say that collagen is the glue that holds our bodies together.

Vitamin C is also essential for our immune system to work properly, and it is one of the major antioxidants protecting us against the damage to our cells caused by Increased Oxidative Stress (IOS). When you look at it on a molecular level, all diseases are IOS related, in other words, excessive oxidation. All toxins are pro-oxidant, all pathogens are pro-oxidant, and vitamin C is one of your main allies in this constant war for survival within our bodies.

Low levels of vitamin C causes fatigue, capillary fragility, gum disease, a weakened immune system, bone pain, poor wound healing and depression. Many scientists have hypothesized that localized vitamin C deficiency is the main cause of arterial disease together with excess sugar. It is important to know that sugar competes with vitamin C for absorption, so avoid foods containing sugar when taking vitamin C, (perhaps it is better to avoid all sugar, period),

So how much C do we need? Most animals produce their own vitamin C, but we humans have somehow lost our ability to synthesize it. We are told we only need 70 mg for women and 90 mg for men daily, but we sincerely believe that this is grossly insufficient.

For example, the liver of a goat will produce 18,000 mg when healthy, and easily 100,000 mg when ill (they rarely get ill). Stress, illness, alcohol consumption and many other factors use up vitamin C. Smoking a single cigarette depletes 25 mg of this precious vitamin in our bodies. Diabetics are also deficient and need more.

Many health professionals and people in the know take vitamin C in the thousands of milligrams a day. Linus Pauling, a two-time Nobel Prize winner and famous researcher of vitamin C who took 18,000 mg daily, said every drug should have this label: “Keep this medicine out of the reach of everyone. Use vitamin C instead.” This may be a little extreme, but one gets the idea.

Citrus Bioflavonoids (included in this product) are anti-inflammatory and enhance the function of vitamin C, and the fact that it is buffered avoids the acidity to which many people are sensitive.
